My college grades are actually much higher than my high school grades, but I think getting good grades in high school is really the key to getting in. That and actually doing the optional essay and making sure they are good ones.

Basically, i consider myself to have been a well-rounded student. i spent most of my efforts on the UW essays because it was my top school. i know i must have done something right since its harder for out-of-state students [only 20% are accepted]

It's not that hard. Just score well on your SAT and get good grades. Pretty much it. Screw the essays, they're meaningless unless you completely sucked at your GPA/SAT

I had a high GPA and average SATS (1200) with LOTS of extracurricular activities. I attended a "feeder" high school where 40-60 of the students in my class ended up choosing the UW. I wouldn't sweat the admissions process if you have 3.8+ GPA/1200+ SAT score.
